DUQUESNE INCLINE
Step into a century-old cable car to enjoy a journey back in time. The Duquesne Incline opened in 1877 and still features the original cars. It follows the tracks of an early coal hoist. Duquesne is one of the country's last remaining inclines and is recognized by USA Today as one of the world's top ten sites for viewing a cityscape.
HEINZ HISTORY CENTER
Discover 250 years of Pittsburgh's history at the Heinz History Center. The center's roots trace back to 1899, making it the oldest cultural institution in western Pennsylvania. Visitors can explore six floors of exhibitions, including Glass: Shattering Notions. It explains how Pittsburgh became known as America's Glass City and showcases a glassmaker's tools. The display also features one of the premier regional collections of glass with over 500 objects on view.
PHIPPS CONSERVATORY AND BOTANICAL GARDEN
A Pittsburgh landmark since 1893, the Phipps Conservatory is a green oasis in the middle of the Oakland neighborhood. Over 20 gardens span 15 acres, and the garden strives to advance sustainability and environmental well-being. Phipps is in bloom all year with notable exhibits like the Orchid Room. Dozens of fragrant orchids are on display, and they range from true species to eye-catching hybrids.
