Take Your Pick: Local Berry-Picking Farms

At its prime, fresh fruit seems to abound during the summer solstice. The location of our Cranberry Woods apartments is an easy drive to several great farms and orchards where you can pick your own berries. Head to these local orchards to enjoy seasonal fruit at its best!

SOERGEL ORCHARDS

Soergel Orchards is the perfect stop for those who prefer a taste of the country without being too far from the city. Only a 10-minute drive from your home at The Pendleton, this orchard started in Wexford, PA, in 1850 and offers pick-your-own blueberries and strawberries throughout the summer. Visit the orchard's website for the harvest schedule, which highlights each month's prime produce and lists dates the orchard is open for picking. Soergel Orchards recommends calling their office to check availability, weather conditions, and other factors that can impact picking times.

The orchard also features a large market on-site that includes fresh baked goods, gift items, and an arsenal cider taproom.

NORMAN'S ORCHARD

For a more leisurely drive into the countryside, check out Norman's Orchard, which specializes in heirloom fruit. Located in Tarentum, PA, this farm is about a 45-minute drive from Cranberry, PA, and is the perfect day trip to lush fields of fruit placed against a beautiful country backdrop.

According to their website's schedule, July produces blueberries and Wealthy apples later in the month. This orchard is also one of the few local farms where you can pick your own grapes! Grapes arrive in mid-August along with pears and Summer Rambo apples. Their Facebook page posts weekly updates about the picking seasons. Call ahead to confirm your picking plans before you drive to the farm.

SNYDER'S BERRY FARM

Located north of Butler, PA, this Snyder's Berry Farm is all about the berries! Showcasing rows of colorful berries, visitors have enjoyed this scenic location for over 30 years. It's also a favorite among local wineries and breweries who frequently use the farm's berries in their recipes. While visiting the farm, you'll find over 10 acres of strawberries, concord grapes, black raspberries, red raspberries, and yellow raspberries. Their Facebook page is where you can find information about picking availability. Currently, black raspberries are still available, and red raspberries are beginning to ripen. As recommended by the farm, call ahead for hours and fruits in season.
