Now that the temperatures have gotten warmer, it's the perfect time to explore nature surrounding our Cranberry apartments. The area offers a variety of fantastic trails that offer scenic views and an invigorating workout.
If this sounds good to you, lace up your hiking boots and enjoy these fabulous local trails:
SLIPPERY ROCK GORGE TRAIL
At 14.3 miles, Slippery Rock Gorge is the longest trail at McConnell's Mill State Park. It is one of the area's most popular day hikes and is part of the North Country Scenic Trail. At the 3.5 mile point, the path descends into the deepest part of the gorge. A section of the trail is spotted with blue blazes, and hikers also see a covered bridge built in 1876.
MINGO CREEK COUNTY PARK TRAILS
Mingo Creek offers a picturesque hike between covered bridges. The bridges are viewed from all sides, making them some of Washington County's most popular covered bridges. Those looking for an easy journey will want to explore the 1.5-mile path. It's surrounded by towering trees and offers scenic creek views. For the more adventurous, there are miles of trails that meander through rugged terrain.
Hikers will also come across the historic Henry House built in the early 1800s. Before the home was constructed, a participant of the 1700s Whiskey Rebellion owned the land.
MONTOUR TRAIL
Spanning sixty plus miles around Pittsburgh, Montour is the country's longest suburban rail-trail. Dotted with refurbished railroad truss bridges, the paved trail leads through rural landscapes. It features scenic beauty, plenty of wildlife, and historic tunnels built by the railroad to escape steep grades. Over 400,000 people explore Montour every year, and in 2017, it was named Pennsylvania's Trail of the Year.
